5-11 January 2005 - Windhoek

My parents have gone off to Namibia, in southern Africa, to work for two years as volunteers with the Bushmen people. I went out to visit them just after New Year, their first visitors since they landed in September.

I landed in Windhoek amid 32 degrees of height, weighed down by 29.2 kg of things for mum and dad, and 4kg of clothes and belongings of my own.

Mum and dad were house-sitting in the Windhoek house of the head of VSO Namibia over the New Year holiday.

It was fairly palatial.

Mum was loving the fact that the house had a garden without dogs digging it up.

I got to meet Lucy, their new puppy, for the first time.

We spent some time dashing about Windhoek which is a v civilised little place.

A 4x4 "bakkie" is the only way around the country, though looks a little excessive in town.
