20 August 2002 - Thessaloniki

While waiting for my sleeper train, I had several hours to kill in Thessaloniki, so I went for a wander.

Thessaloniki is a modern concrete town.

Every now and then, a remarkable building pops up out of nowhere.

It's a port on the Aegean, and the sea front is pretty.

The whole place had a similar air to Marseille.

It even had big wide portside piazzas and streets leading up the hill.
