15 January 2005 - Etosha national park

After having done our best at Tsumkwe and CDM, we went back towards Windhoek via Etosha national park, one of the finest game reserves in the whole world.

We saw eland.

About 20 elephants crossed the road in front of us, and we just arrived in time to get this picture.

Then we got lucky with this friendly giraffe.

We saw springbok.

Later we got onto the plain.

There we saw some wildebeest.

A cheeky zebra came to pose for us.

Some oryx said hello. I subsequently ate an oryx as part of a game steak that evening, but I don't think it came from this guy.

We stayed at Fort Nautomi, an amazing Beau Geste type colonial fort.

From it you can see for miles and miles.

And the next morning, as a fitting climax to my stay in Namibia, I saw the king of the animals.
