21 August 2002 - Edirne

I found the sleeper train left me more than 30km from the border, contrary to expectations, so I had a chance to view a bit of eastern Greece. It didn't prepare me for what I found just a few kilometres away in Turkey.

Edirne, formally Adrianopolis, is choc-a-bloc with seriously beautiful Ottoman mosques.

There is an enormous medressah (Islamic school) as well - immensely impressive.
