17 August 2002 - Apollonia and Ardenicė
With the Bozos, I made a trip to Albania's finest archaeological site, and then on to the Bozo family's ancestral lands.
[October 2002 - Alba has asked for photos of herself to be removed].
In the middle of open fields...
...with just the occasional concrete bunker for company...
...sit Ancient Greek ruins of astonishing quality.
This is the Odeon.
Behind Monda is the library.
Not far off is Lushnjė, and from this hill, Alba and Evis look out on lands that all used to belong to their family.
Here we ate lunch, with lush Bozo farmland lying below.
The restaurant is still closely-connected with the family.
Next to the restaurant is an ancient monastery.
Apparently it was one of the first recorded educational establishments in Albania.
A plaque on the door commemorates the vast sums of cash Llazar Bozo spent in 1924 to restore the monastery.
